The need for regularly scheduled meetings of RSC has been discussed over the last year. Our club is now more than 2 years old. We have about 60 dogs registered with us! Many of the young dogs imported through the club's efforts are maturing, and will soon become candidates for breeding. It is time to have our dogs gathered in one place and properly evaluated. Call it "RSC Dog Show" if you like.

The main question is where and when???

Sometimes in the summer is the only restriction we have right now on the date.

Since we are all scattered around the North American continent, no single place will be satifactory for everyone. Maybe alternating locations will be the way to handle this in the future?

Although we have some recommendations already, let's hear from our members first. What do you think?

Anna, perhaps a reasonable idea would be to divide our club into regional divisions. We could have meetings and shows for each division perhaps there can be a Southwest Division or four corners dviision ...I have a lovely suggestion for a meeting place in southern colorado that would appeal to campers and non-campers alike. There are reserved large party camping spaces, near by KOA's and even a nearby town (alamosa) which has a variety of lodging. Let me know what you folks think of the regional idea. I would be proud to help out in arrangements for the club.

Here is the map showing locations of RSC dogs. Green dots represent dogs not qualified for breeding and/or fixed. Others (in red) might be eligible for breeding. This is not an exact map, rather something to give us an idea as to where we all are. Take a look.

Well, it appears that there's a pretty good concentration in the east, the midwest (Illinois area) and west near California.  Perhaps having 3 regions now - East, Central, West like Louie's mom suggested with a meeting in each of them.  Alternatively, the yearly meetings could be rotated between those 3 regions.  Just a suggestion. . .

I'm just glad that we have this cyber meeting space now, anyway ;-)

I like the idea of having three regional meetings with a "floating" yearly meeting.  It would allow better attendance from people that might not be able to travel across the country every year due to financial, time, or health issues.

Maybe for the first year we should all meet together then in subsequent years we can divide  by region.  I would enjoy seeing all the dogs and prospective parents.  I do live in Wisconsin so am centrally located; travel wouldn't be as difficult for me.

Ok, perhaps the first meeting should be national perhaps somewhere centrally located, maybe kansas? maybe as well as having our beloveds evualated, we can split into regional divisions also as part of our agenda. How about the 2nd or 3rd week in July. Maybe we ought to mail/email invitations and get some rsvps to see if a second natl metting is required. Best way to do this is pick a date and place ang get the ball rolling. I'm willing to help anyway I can, *ie. mailings, emailings, any other organizational needs.)

I just wanted to add that if we pick someplace central, I think we should pick someplace near where there's already a good concentration of RSC members.  Illinois, Wisconsin or Texas all seem like good options.  It just doesn't make sense to me to make everyone travel.  Might as well make it convenient for someone.

We also should consider that if our dogs are travelling with us, we should go someplace that isn't too hot - both air travel and car travel might be uncomfortable for our pups.  So maybe Texas wouldn't be a good idea ;-)

If everyone would be interested in a national meeting in the midwest, there is a large reservoir named Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, IL. It has camping, cabins, and hotels nearby. It's located near Interstate 70 and downtown St. Louis is only about 45-60 minutes away. There are some pavilions in the camping area that could be reserved for the meeting. I could find out more defnite information if this proves to be a good option for everyone. It can get very hot and humid in the midwest in July, but the end of July and beginning of August are usually the worst. ********** Depending on the time we choose, there is also a very nice Boy Scout Camp right down the road from my home in Indiana that may also work. I might be able to rent the entire camp and we could use the facility for camping and cabins. Hotels are just minutes down the road and Interstate 65 is 5 minutes away. Indianapolis is 1 hour south and the east side of Chicago is ~2 hours away. For those of you flying, there is a rather inexpense ($39 roundtrip) limo service that would put you at a hotel right near I-65 and 5 minutes from camp. Do either of these 2 suggestions interest anyone?

Finally, I have some information to share with everyone!!!

As you might know, one of RSC members is Elena Kryukova who is a breed expert qualified to judge Russian Spaniel dog shows in Russia. I did not mention this before because her personal circumstances (she is expecting a baby) will not allow her to travel this summer and she did not want to commit to doing this. I was able to talk her into helping us evaluate our dogs if we bring the dog show to her. Elena lives in Princeton, NJ. So the location has been decided for us (fortunately for some, unfortunately for others). Now we need to:

  1. Decide on the date,
  2. Find a location close to Princeton, NJ (I would say within 2 hour drive max).

Help is greatly appreciated!!!!

P.S. I personally prefer 18 or 25 of June

It looks like Delaware Water Gap recreational area allows pets. But I will check with them next week. If it comes to the worst, I can have it done in my backyard. I will check with the township on that next week as well. I hope they don't have any crazy ordinance. In that case it can be done June 25. I live 20 minutes from Newark International Airport. There is plenty motels and hotels in the area. I will also check on South Mountain Reservation.
